The research subject was the empirical testing of the relative importance of fiscal and monetary actions on economic activity (under the leadership of Professor Philip Mohr). Daleen was the first woman to receive a D.Com degree in Economics at the University of South Africa, i.e. since its establishment in 1946.

Daleen's highlights and achievements include:

- She was the first woman to receive a D.Com in Economics at the University of South Africa since its establishment in 1946.

- From early on in her career at the Bank she was able to break through to the next level of seniority and she was for instance the first woman to be appointed to the level of Assistant General Manager since the Bank’s inception in 1921.

- She was the first woman in the Bank to attend an overseas course; the Bank sponsored her to participate in the Ph.D. programme of the University of Pennsylvania in the United States of America in 1985 and 1986.

- She was nominated for and was a finalist in the SABC2’s countrywide Lebone Woman of the Year competition in 1998, i.e. being recognised for her contribution in the organisation and the development of staff, especially women.

-In February 2005 Daleen was appointed as Honorary Professor in the Department of Economics at the University of Pretoria and reappointed in 2008.

- Under her leadership the Macro Models Unit at the South African Reserve Bank received various prestigious awards from in the new millennium from 2000 – 2010.
